After scoring a Top 15 hit with the Miguel-assisted "Beautiful" and recovering from a devastating injury, Mariah Carey flies past the struggles on "The Art of Letting Go", the latest single and title track from her upcoming album.
"This is such a personal record to me," the iconic vocalist reveals. "I wrote the lyrics so that anyone and everyone could relate to them and hopefully release anything that they need to let go of that’s holding them back or bringing them down. Thank you for sharing this experience with me!" Listen to the new single and read our thoughts beneath:
Oh Mimi! While we commend Carey for the record's more mature and personal tone, as well as, her vocal performance, which shows that there is still an abundance of power left in her five-octave range, that is sadly, where the positives come to a screeching halt.
The record, which was produced by Rodney 'Darkchild' Jerkins, can only be described as a perplexing mess. Aside from not boasting an ounce of radio potential, the melody often get boggled down by her trying to say too much in too short of a time span and the lack of a true chorus definitely doesn't do her any favors.
