Carrie Underwood Proves To Be Ratings Gold For NBC In 'The Sound Of Music'

Carrie Underwood is getting the last laugh! Despite mixed reviews for her performance as Maria in NBC's live broadcast production of 'The Sound of Music', the country superstar and the rest cast brought in a staggering 18.6 million viewers.

The telecast, which also starred Stephen Moyer as Captain Von Trapp and the impeccable Audra McDonald as Mother Abbess, was the most watch show of the night and marked the largest non-sports related audience since 'ER' signed off in 2009.

Having watched the three-hour show, I believe some of the over-critical reviews are unwarranted. No Underwood is not going to be making her way up to a podium to accept an award for anything other than her mesmerizing singing anytime soon, but with her take on the iconic role, she brought a innocence and a sense of purity to the part that was simply a joy to watch.
